Qualifications and Experience
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP, the largest professional body in this field, and abide by its code of professional ethics.
I hold the Spectrum Training Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy from spectrumtherapy.co.uk the large humanistic community of practitioners in North London, recognised by BACP as an appropriate qualification for this work.
My academic background is in social science, international relations and conflict resolution, with an emphasis on addressing the roots of human conflict and how they influence us at different levels, within ourselves, between individuals at home or work, in the wider community and between larger human groups. I hold an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in these areas.
My practical experience with people going back many years has included personal support work with students in difficulties, support and life-skills training for people coming out of long-term spells in prison and/or mental health care, and nearly two decades supporting ordinary people to manage their lives and find practical ways to cooperate and make peace with their neighbours in areas of violent conflict - mainly Northern Ireland, Russia and above all in the countries of Former Yugoslavia.I have worked in personnel, recruitment and programme and staff management and trained, supervised, supported and advised staff and given consultancy advice to local community activists in all of these areas.
With my counselling and psychotherapy training, my focus is now on using this breadth of related work and life experience to work with you as an individual in the ways that work best for you to support your personal growth towards greater confidence, effectiveness and satisfaction in how you manage and live your life.
